Matthew McConaughey

In October 1999, the Dazed and Confused star caused a neighborhood disturbance and was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police visited his house on a noise complaint. The officers reported finding McConaughey blasting loud music and playing bongos in the buff while another man “danced and clapped,” surrounded by “a faint odor of marijuana” as well as a pipe with herbal remnants. The drug charges against the actor were eventually dropped, although he did have to pay a $50 fine for violating a noise ordinance.

Detroit 10th most stoned city in U.S.

Steve Pardo / The Detroit News Detroit -- We're more baked than Buffalo but less stoned than Seattle, according to an opinion and newsgathering website that ranks and measures those kinds of things. Detroit ranked No. 10 in the nation on "the most stoned cities" list complied by The Daily Beast -- a site published by the former editor of Vanity Fair and the New Yorker. "The Daily Beast looked through data on more than 1,000 cities to find out which communities rate highest for getting high year-round. Many of the top 40 towns house large universities, where the habits of young students affect the overall atmosphere," according to the article, which posted today -- April 20, a celebrated day among cannabis enthusiasts. The site used a blended ranking by determining the number of marijuana arrests per capita, the strength of its "pot culture" as determined by the former editor of High Times, and federal surveys from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. "Michigan is new to the medical marijuana game, and nearby Ypsilanti is home to one of the state's first dispensaries," the authors said in rating Detroit. Eureka, Calif., ranked first followed by Tallahassee, Fla.; Manhattan; Boston; and San Francisco. The full listings can be seen at thedailybeast.com
