Eastern coyote sightings becoming more common in Rochester Hills

The quiet of the night in the Christian Hills subdivision along the Clinton River can be broken by the shrill siren of a fox or coyote seeking a squirrel, rabbit, opossum, woodchuck, or family pet. Unheard of a decade ago, sightings of the eastern coyote and red fox are becoming more common throughout Rochester Hills. The escalation of coyote sightings has prompted Rochester Hills Television to put together a seventy-seven and a half minute video of a presentation by the City of Rochester and Department of Natural Resources to inform citizens of the impact and how to react. Titled Coyotes and You, the video has a goal of informing residents of the behavior and science of this wild species. It is a straight filming of the presentation made at City Hall with the only editing to blend in the video and PowerPoint portion of the program. It’s entertaining format and use of anecdotal stories keeps the viewer interested as a bounty of educational information is provided. The key take away from the presentation is to have a healthy respect for the coyote. Yes, they have been known to attack small pets so caution is needed but they are rather easily scared off, minimizing any threat to humans
