One day last summer Nicole and I went for a walk up Mount Royal. As we approached the foot of this splendid hill we were greeted by the gentle thunder of a large drum circle. Moving closer, the air laced with the occasional waft of marijuana, we began to see people of all sorts. Shockingly pale men and women sunning themselves on the grass, a badminton four-some, white-boy dreads, Cirque Du Soleil rejects practicing a variety of acrobatic feats, a women half-way up a tree rehearsing Rapunzel before a small crowd. All of this was to be expected, we had been warned that it was a hive of hippie activity, but what lied ahead I could not have fathomed.
Earlier, upon first arriving at the park, I recall being quite impressed by a pair of Quebequois dressed in full medieval garb, equipped with a variety of padded melee weapons. They seemed casual enough despite the strange context and with all the other strange behavior surrounding us I did a bit of a double take, scratched my beard, and carried on. After making our way across the large field we found a pathway leading into the cool shade of the wooded hillside. Before long we noticed what appeared to be a large cloud of dust shimmering with light in a clearing about 300 yards off. Amongst the dust we where able to make out a large number of flailing swords and staggering soldiers locked in the heat of battle.
"SWORD FIGGGGGGGGGGGGGHT!" I yelled as I ran towards the clearing.
Camera in hand (for once) I lept into the action. The following is what I managed to capture.
